VSO is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that sends volunteers between the ages of 17 and 70 to share their skills and experience with communities in the developing world. VSO allows people to learn from one another and benefit their local communities. Through focusing on long-term goals and community development, the organization hopes to eradicate poverty.
Since 1958, the VSO has sent more than 29,000 volunteers to Africa, Asia, the Pacific and Eastern Europe. Volunteers are from a variety of professions including teachers, engineers, social workers, health professionals and engineers. In addition, the VSO helps educate the public, influence government policies and raise awareness of issues in developing countries.
