Animal Welfare Institute
Founded in 1951 by Christine Stevens, the Animal Welfare Institute (AWI) is a non-profit organization that champions the ethical treatment of animals by people, aiming to eliminate animal cruelty. When the AWI first began, it focused on ending the use of animals in experimentation. Since then, it has taken on many other issues, such as putting a stop to cruel animal factories, ending animal brutality in education and fighting for endangered species. In addition, the AWI has spent over 50 years preparing information for members of Congress interested in proposing animal protective legislation.
