Where can I find the charitable value of household goods?
Thinking about donating that sweater you received last year and never wore, or how about that perfectly good color TV you swapped for a new high-definition plasma model? Find out the charitable value of these goods at the Salvation Army or Goodwill to determine how much you can deduct from your taxes. For Goodwill, you will have to find your state or metropolitan area's center to get specific value guides. Here is an example of the one for California and one for Chicago. If you donate often, you might consider downloading ItsDeductible software, for a fee, to find out the biggest possible deduction you can make.
